Which models of Sharp Zaurus does Calculon work on?
Calculon is being actively used on the following models: 5000D, 5500, 5600 and C700 models, no serious issues have yet arisen. Calculon has been reported as working on the A300, but we would welcome more feedback on this. From Calculon version 1.0.1 support has been added for the higher screen resolutions of the C700 models (see below for details).

Will Calculon install on OpenZaurus?
Yes! As of version 1.0.1 Calculon is tested against OpenZaurus 3.2 as well as the standard Sharp ROM.

Will Calculon install onto CF or SD card?
Yes! Since version 1.0.1. Technical details on the exact location of installed files are available here.

Does Calculon run on C700 series models?
Calculon runs both in compatibility mode (i.e. magnified at 320x240 resolution) and at full screen VGA mode on C700 models. The main benefit to running at full screen resolution is that plots are smoother and more detailed. However, currently the control icons and worksheet fonts appear rather small at full resolution.

Note: Calculon runs in compatibility mode by default, in order to get Calculon to run at VGA resolution on a C700 model hold down the stylus on the Calculon icon, and uncheck the option to run magnified.

If I buy Calculon, will I have to pay for upgrades?
Upgrades within the 1.x series of Calculon will be free to those who have already purchased Calculon. Some of these upgrades are planned to add significant functionality, they won't all just be bug fixes or cosmetic touches (although there will be some of these!). Versions of Calculon from 2.0 onwards may be priced higher, but a discounted purchase scheme will be available for owners of Calculon versions in the 1.x series. Calculon version 2.0 is quite a long way off.

I am using version X, do I need to upgrade to version Y?
The release notes document the added features and bug fixes for each upgrade.

I've transferred a Calculon Package onto the PDA, but I can't open it!
This problem is to do with the way Qtopia deals with file types. Calculon adds a new file type to the system, but the synchronisation software (e.g. Qtopia Desktop) also needs to be told about the new type for files to transfer correctly. You will get a similar problem if you transfer a file by ftp, CF card or some similar method. There is a fairly detailed discussion of the problem on the DjView FAQ. Briefly, here is the quick fix for Qtopia Desktop on MS Windows:

Use the Windows Explorer to find the directory in which Qtopia Desktop is installed. E.g. this might well be C:/Program Files/Sharp/Qtopia Desktop. Go into the "etc" directory and there you will find a file called "mime.types". Click the right mouse button on this file and select Open With. Use WordPad (not NotePad) to open the file. Add this line to the bottom of the file:
application/x-calculon cpk ; CalculonFile
Now when you use Qtopia Desktop to sync a file it should work. To check - look on the Documents tab of the PDA, if the file appears there with the Calculon Package icon (red box with a shell in it) then the file has been recognised as the right type.

I have done what was explained above, but its still doesn't work for a particular file.
Make sure the file on the PC has the extension ".cpk" as this is how Qtopia Desktop will identify it as a Calculon Package.

I would like to know some details about the install or uninstall process.
Have a look here.

How do I report a bug?
The most important thing when trying to fix bugs is knowing how to make them happen. If the bug is caused by a particular worksheet then the best thing is if you can send us the worksheet which causes it. If it's not a bug that can be encapsulated in this way, then please tell us the sequence of events which causes the bug in as much detail as possible. However, even if it was just a 'one off' kind of event please take the time to let us know about it. If we get several similar reports it may give us an idea of something that needs to be looked at.

In all cases please tell us which model of PDA you have, and the ROM version (which can be found using the System Info program). Please reports bugs to: john@vaagmaer.com

Any other problems, email: john@vaagmaer.com
